Aborted - “Termination Redux”

Aborted is a death metal band from Belgium. They formed back in 1995 and have had many different names through past lineups, with the only constant being their vocalist, Sven "Svencho" de Caluwé. The band populates the gore metal genre with Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under, although I have to say, Aborted has aged pretty well compared to other acts. This EP celebrates their 20th anniversary as a band.
Clocking in at a speedy 15 minutes, Aborted start the year off with a really great EP. Svencho delivers with some of my favorite vocal work that he’s done. If you liked their last album, The Necrotic Manifesto, most of the previous lineup is present, with the exception of Ian Jekelis (ex-God Dethroned and ex-Abysmal Dawn) replacing Danny Tunker. Each song rips on this EP. One of my main complaints with this genre is that there doesn’t seem to be much variation between songs. I don’t find that true here. There's a different feel and groove to each song. “Bound in Acrimony,” my favorite song on this, features fast and doomy riffs. There is this great breakdown at the halfway mark that has this beatdown feel and makes you want to get up from your seat and go off.
Years ago, Aborted exposed me to new styles of metal. I’m so happy that they are still creating music as awesome as I remember. I wouldn’t be surprised if this EP has the same effect one some that The Archaic Abattoir had on me back in 2007.
